Descrizione:
Il corbezzolo è una pianta sempreverde appartenente alla famiglia delle Ericaceae che arriva a raggiungere anche i 10 metri di altezza. Presenta molte ramificazioni e i rami più giovani possiedono una colorazione rossastra che rende la pianta particolarmente apprezzata da un punto di vista estetico e decorativo. Le foglie sono ovali lanceolate con il margine seghettato e irregolare, la pagina superiore è di colore verde scuro e lucida; mentre la pagina inferiore presenta una colorazione più chiara. I fiori sono di colore bianco-giallastro o rosa campanulati: la loro forma assomiglia un po’ a delle mini mongolfiere, riuniti in pannocchie.
Proprietà e usi:
Il corbezzolo ha proprietà contro cistite e prostatite per via della azione disinfettante, antinfiammatoria e astringente, antinsettiche, antinfiammatorie, analgesiche e astringenti. Le proprietà benefiche del corbezzolo sono date dalla presenza di arbutina e tannini, contenuti nelle foglie e nei frutti.
Curiosità e miti:
Il miele di corbezzolo è un prodotto tipico della Sardegna, perché questa regione offre un clima ideale per la crescita della pianta. Si tratta di un miele molto ricercato e raro perché, con il freddo e le piogge di fine autunno, le api non escono molto per bottinare. Considerato il suo sapore prelibato, è sicuramente una fatica ben spesa.

The strawberry tree is an evergreen plant belonging to the Ericaceae family that can grow up to 10 metres in height. It has many branches and the youngest branches have a reddish colouring that makes the plant particularly popular from an aesthetic and decorative point of view. The leaves are oval, lanceolate with a serrated, irregular margin; the upper side is dark green and shiny; the lower side is lighter in colour. The flowers are yellowish-white or bell-shaped pink: their shape somewhat resembles mini-balloons, grouped in panicles.
Properties and uses:
The strawberry tree has properties against cystitis and prostatitis due to its disinfectant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and astringent action. The beneficial properties of the strawberry tree are due to the presence of arbutin and tannins, contained in the leaves and fruits.
Curiosities and myths:
Strawberry tree honey is a typical product of Sardinia, because this region offers an ideal climate for the plant’s growth. It is a much sought-after and rare honey because, with the cold and rainy weather in late autumn, the bees do not go out much to forage. Considering its delicious flavour, it is certainly effort well spent.
